About the Artist
“We need art – a clarity of concept, form, space, and color. It can become a resting spot for the spirit, and a sanctuary for good thoughts. “
– Robert Parker
At the age of 14, Robert Parker knew he was going to be an architect. And so, it began. A career in architecture led him into many endeavors into the art world. Now, seven decades later, he is still making art, encompassing many categories: architecture, drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography. Parker works with glass, gouache, watercolor, graphite, ink, wood, and metal. His mastery of technical skills is formidable, the result of a lifetime devoted to his craft.
His artwork in every medium is elegant, refined, and clean. Strong lines, vibrant color, insightful, dynamic compositions ‒ the language is thoughtful and clear, coming from years of wilderness hikes, long hours of quiet contemplation, and creating in the studio. Parker’s inspiration comes from the colors of Thomas Moran, the minimalism of Donald Judd, and the spiritualism of Agnes Martin. There is no excess; all is ordered. To achieve this demands a mind that is aware and quiet, coming from a life of hard work, discipline, and spiritual commitment. The result is deeply beautiful.
